Skin Exfoliation
Exfoliating your skin about once a week can help prevent pores from clogging & help prevent blackheads and pimples.

Be careful not to over-exfoliate as it may cause irritation or sensitivity to the sun.

Skin Exfoliation Remedies Found In Your Kitchen

Want to look great in all the skin-baring fashions of summer?

Next to a healthy diet, exercise and drinking lots of water, exfoliating your skin is one of the best things you can do to achieve soft, smooth skin. Fortunately, you need to look no further than your kitchen for some of the best exfoliation ingredients: baking soda, gelatin and pineapple!

Bonus: they are so economical, you can spend the money you save on a fun accessory–a funky new necklace, for example! Also, they are so gentle you don't need to worry about damaging your skin with the harsh ingredients you find in some store-bought preparations.

Here are our favorite recipes to get your skin to its summer best:

Basic Baking Soda Recipe

(Can be used for the whole body)
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda
  • Few Drops of Water

Gradually add drops of water to the baking soda, until you've made a thick paste. That's it!

But if your skin is dry, you might want to break open a vitamin E capsule and add it to the paste.

(Note: if you are pregnant, check with you doctor before adding this ingredient. Your favorite essential oil can also be used)

Deep Pore Cleansing

If your complexion is prone to blackheads, summer heat can worsen the situation. This calls for weekly deep pore cleansing sessions. Try this simple, but effective recipe to nix the problem:

  • 1 Tablespoon of unflavored gelatin
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons of milk

Whisk together in a small bowl until gelatin is dissolved.

Place mixture in microwave and heat on High for approximately 10 seconds (until it is slightly warm)

  1. Cleanse your face with warm water to open your pores (or steam it over a bowl of hot water with a towel placed over your head to capture steam) and pat dry.
  2. Apply mixture to problem areas on your face with a clean cosmetic brush.
  3. Let dry for 10-15 minutes. (It will form a film on your face).
  4. Peel the film off. (Note: if it hasn't dried enough, it won't peel off easily). As you peel off the film you will see how it has absorbed the excess oil, dislodged from your pores.
  5. Finally, just splash your face with cool water to tighten the pores, and you're done.

For Ultra Soft Skin

Pineapple has enzymes in it that are great for softening your skin. Here's a simple, all-natural recipe you can whip up that will make your skin baby soft.

Pineapple Facial Softening Recipe

  • 1/2 cup of fresh, crushed pineapple - or 1 can of water-packed pineapple
  • ½ cup cornmeal
  • 2 Tablespoons jojoba oil
  1. Use a food processor to blend pineapple and cornmeal together
  2. Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes
  3. Add jojoba oil

Massage the mixture into your face.

Relax for 10 minutes while the mixture does its magic.

Rinse off with cool water.

Final step:

Show off your scrubbed, smoothed and softened face and body, (But don't forget to apply sunscreen . . . freshly exfoliated skin is more susceptible to burning.)
